![]() ![]() The stretch we floated was pretty gentle, and only had a few places with rapidly moving water. The boat handled excellently, and I was able to maneuver just fine. ![]() We kept expecting the sun to break through, but it never did. It was a cold day, though thankfully no rain. We unloaded the boat, handed him a spare key to my Jeep, and he drove it down to our take out point at Neal Road, texting me a photo of the Jeep parked at the site, along with his good wishes for the day's float. Derek runs a shuttle service and I'd contacted him the day before to arrange for him to move our vehicle. We were met there by Derek from Emerging River Guide Services. I decided on the Snoqualmie for our drift, and my dad and I put in yesterday morning at the boat launch just above Fall City. I still plan to take the rowing course from Emerald Water Anglers, but I was comfortable enough yesterday that I took the boat out for its first drift on the river. While I realize that this kind of learning is no substitute for time on the water, and certainly nowhere near as useful as time with an instructor, it is still useful, and I wanted learn as much as I could on my timeline and budget. I read as many articles about running a driftboat in rivers as I could, and even picked up a book on the subject. Being new to navigating and maneuvering a driftboat, I wanted to get some time in behind the oars in calm waters before I took to the rivers. I bought a driftboat a few months ago, but have been using it exclusively on lakes. ![]()
